Boston Red Sox catcher Ryan Hanigan broke the knuckle on his right pinky finger Friday night after being hit by a pitch from reliever Tommy Layne.
Thankfully, Red Sox manager John Farrell believes the catcher will be back behind home plate before the end of the season.
“There were some pins inserted” Farrell said. “It’s going to be a lengthy recovery time. I wouldn’t anticipate him back before the All-Star break.”
Hanigan will be going through “some imaging, MRI, CAT scan and all that tomorrow just to determine the complete view of the fracture.” Farrell explained.
Due to the injury, catcher Blake Swihart was given an opportunity to make his major league debut on Saturday during the team’s 4-2 loss to the New York Yankees.
