Platelet Rich Plasma

Dr Pruzansky | December 20, 2012

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections appear to be as effective as, or better than, steroid injections for tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, and pitcher’s elbow, and probably with fewer side effects.*

The application of PRP to these and other forms of tendinitis and bursitis of the upper extremity for which it is being used is still under clinical investigation.  Components of the patient’s own blood are injected into the inflamed area.  Proteins, which contribute to healing, are released by platelets when removed from the blood stream.

Bracing, physical therapy, ergonomic training, oral and other parenteral medications, rest, and surgery are always discussed in formulating a treatment plan.
