Patriots Linebacker Jonathan Freeny Suffers Bennett’s Fracture

Dr Pruzansky | December 21, 2015

Jonathan Freeny, New England Patriots’ No. 3 linebacker, was spotted with his right hand in a cast after Sunday night’s win over the Houston Texans. This hand and wrist injury is the apparent reason for him only playing five snaps before leaving the field.

According to sources, Freeny was leaving the locker room when the cast was seen. It was later determined that Freeny had sustained a dislocated thumb and partially dislocated wrist. Thankfully, tests for a wrist fracture came back negative.

Freeny is expected to miss some game time as trained doctors stabilize the thumb/wrist and ensure proper care in its healing. If all goes well, there’s a good chance he’ll return to the field before the year’s end.

For the duration of Freeny’s absence, Jerod Mayo is primed to see increased play time, as was the case Sunday.
