Oakland A’s Outfielder Josh Reddick Out 4-6 Weeks With Fractured Left Thumb

Dr Pruzansky | May 24, 2016

The Oakland A’s learned this weekend that they’ll be without their most valuable player for the next four to six weeks due to a common baseball injury: a fractured thumb.

Outfielder Josh Reddick fractured his left thumb while sliding into second base during Thursday’s loss to the Yankees. Reddick is currently listed on the 15 day disabled list and joins 11 other A’s players already sidelined this season.

The thumb plays a major part in the hitting and throwing motion of a baseball player. An injury such as this could be difficult to recover from quickly given the nature of the game and could become a lingering issue throughout the season.

Reddick will most likely undergo hard casting, followed by a physical therapy program to regain mobility and strength in the joint, before getting back on to the field.
